The story tale of Calgary’s Little Italy Legacy

The Buonincontris family’s story echoes the rich history of Bridgeland, once known as Calgary’s “Little Italy.” Like many Italian immigrants who settled in the area after World War II. Bridgeland became a vibrant hub of Italian culture, with a concentration of Italian bakeries, restaurants, and grocery stores that provided newcomers with familiar comforts. 

La Brezza opened by the founder Marco who LIVED in the basement of the iconic house is nestled in the heart of this historic neighborhood, Marco married Filomena and her mother (his mother in law from napoli helped form the iconic recipes, La Brezza today continues and is now run by his children to honor this legacy. The restaurant’s commitment to traditional Italian cuisine and family formalities reflects the broader narrative of Bridgeland’s transformation from “Germantown” in the 1880s to a thriving Italian community by the mid-20th century.

Today, while Bridgeland has evolved into a diverse, trendy neighborhood, La Brezza stands as a testament to the area’s Italian roots. It offers diners a chance to experience the warmth and culinary heritage that once defined Calgary’s Little Italy, keeping alive the spirit of community that has always been at the heart of this unique Calgary district.
